What do you do each day that doesn’t contribute to your writing — and can you eliminate it? [author: Leo Babauta]

I squeeze in time to do this because I truly enjoy it...I set time aside from my mommy duties after work...but one thing that I do each that doesn't contribute to writing is watching television...especially on days that my favorites show.  Other days, I basically channel surf...but Wednesdays and Fridays are a must...Glee, Modern Family, Grey's and Private Practice are on...it is mindless but I enjoy it so much!  I could probably eliminate it...and at times, it is necessary to do so...but if I know I can catch it on-line...I'm good to go...oh the simple pleasures of life...

Pick one moment during which you felt most alive this year. Describe it in vivid detail (texture, smells, voices, noises, colors). [author: Ali Edwards]

My 2010 wasn't what you would call one of those extraordinary-out-of-this-world type of year.  I didn't travel to some far out place, or do some awesome feat.  It was just me living my life...working, being a mom, doing laundry, etc...although the highlight of my year was that 2010 was the year I moved up in my career (position wise).  An affirmation that told me I WAS good enough...I always knew that I was, but sometimes you DO need that affirmation to be explicit and documented.

There wasn't ONE moment that made me feel most alive this year, rather, moment(s) with my daughters that made me feel most alive...as I watch them grow and discover new things that they are doing or achieving..it is when I feel most alive.  My oldest, Parris who is seven received her grades for the 1st quarter of second grade.  She had struggled in first grade, so I was apprehensive, to say the least.  I remember picking it up at the school gym after the PTO meeting...it had just stopped raining, as I walked on the wet pavement toward the gym...I was late, so they were just about to close up...I got the report card, walked back to my car where my husband was waiting...I opened the envelope with trepidation...heart pumping rapidly...A's and B's...I was over the moon!  My baby Paige, amuses me with her communication style, and everyday is always different.  She mimics everyone around her...she tries to follow what Kailan on t.v. tells her to do.  Those 'moments' as a mother...that is when I feel most alive...
